In honor of Audiology Awareness Month, a Santa Clarita audiologist is educating the community on what an audiologist does, and why turn to a private practice audiology office for hearing loss solutions.

Audiologists are trained by a university for at least four to six years, and now must also have a doctorate degree from a four-year doctoral program, according to Nola Aronson of Advanced Audiology.
“They are trained in the diagnosis of hearing loss and the solutions, and what to do about different types of hearing loss,” Aronson explained. “They can also find medical problems that occur in the ear … and we deal with balance and dizzy problems also.”

While Aronson noted that audiologists refer out to the appropriate medical doctors for medical problems, they make the actual diagnosis first.
For instance, Aronson diagnosed KHTS Co-Owner Carl Goldman with an ear tumor earlier this year after he came to her about hearing loss problems he’d been having in one ear for months.
Goldman noted that Aronson was by his side, even working directly with his doctors, during the entire process, adding that he had weekly appointments with her to fine tune his hearing loss solutions while doctors adopted a “wait-and-see” approach with the tumor over a six-month period.
“We don’t just sell hearing aids,” said Aronson. “We actually have solutions, we actually have communication strategies and we actually do those kinds of things, so when people think of us, they need to think more of their health rather than buying something, because there’s a big difference.”
For patients that may have trouble affording to choose a private practice Santa Clarita audiologist, Aronson noted that she has made calls to insurance companies and even searched for donated hearing aids that she can give to a patient in need.
“I go that extra mile to try to help my patients,” Aronson said. “It’s not all about just money all the time, and that’s what a lot of people think it’s about. I really care whether people hear or not. I care about each person as an individual.”
