Being developed by Serrano Development Group and Pacific Empire Builders, the Newhall Crossings project is slated to be the one of the largest construction projects for Old Town Newhall in decades.

“What you’re seeing (on the corner of Newhall and Lyons) is a mix-use project that were developing (that will have) forty-seven apartment units and over 20,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space,” Tolleson said.

Measuring five stories tall, one of the main building on the site will have commercial spaces on the first floor, with the remaining floors being devoted to housing apartments that feature exclusive birds-eye views of Newhall.

One Santa Clarita staple has already claimed a future storefront on the first floor of the complex: Apollo’s Barber Shop.

“We’re delivering something unique to Santa Clarita that has never really existed here you,” Tolleson said. “You can live down here and walk to any of the numerous bars and restaurants in Old Town Newhall; or you can jump on the metrolink train across the street.”

“There are lots of amenities, all within walking distance.”

In addition to the living, shopping and dining areas, the project will also feature a unique fixture for the Santa Clarita Valley: a seven-screen Laemmle Theater.

“Starting in a month or so, the Laemmle Theater is going to begin developing its seven screen, two-story movie theater in the northeast corner of the site,” Tolleson said. “In the middle of  site is a central courtyard that will be the convergence of all these different activities.”

Future patrons and moviegoers of the Newhall Crossing will not have to be concerned about parking, as the newly opened 370 spot parking structure erected by the City of Santa Clarita offers both a 360-degree view of Newhall and easy access to the Newhall Crossings courtyard.

“We’re planning on opening the theater and the mixed-use project in October of next year,” Tolleson said. “We’re making a large investment in the neighborhood with the hopes that it continues on the trajectory the city set it on many years ago with the creation of the downtown specific plan.”
