Methane Leak Prompts Evacuations In Sand Canyon

Firefighters are investigating a methane leak Wednesday, which caused homes to be evacuated in the Sand Canyon area, officials said.

Around 3:20 p.m, first responders received reports of a methane leak on the 15600 block of Saddleback Road in Canyon Country, said Marvin Lim, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“Methane is escaping from the ground under a house,” Lim said.

While crews are investigating the methane leak, crews have evacuated homes in the general area as a precaution, according to Fire officials.

As of 4:45 p.m., there have been no reported injuries, officials said.
