A 5 Freeway big rig fire Monday night resulted in 75 gallons of diesel spilled, resulting in lanes being closed for hours, officials said.
On Monday around 11:05 p.m., first responders received reports of a vehicle fire on the northbound 5 Freeway truck route near the 14 Freeway interchange, said Officer Peter Nicholson with the California Highway Patrol Traffic Management Center.
“The big rig was on the shoulder fully engulfed,” Nicholson said.
As a result of the fire, approximately 75 gallons of diesel spilled, requiring the hazardous materials team to respond, said Leslie Lua, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
Officers with the CHP Newhall Area Office issued a SigAlert, which blocked all lanes of the northbound truck route for the majority of the night, according to officials.
As of 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, all lanes have been reopened, Nicholson said.
