A big rig fire on the northbound 5 Freeway near the Balboa Boulevard exit has snarled traffic Friday afternoon, officials said.

Around 2:20 p.m. Friday, first responders received reports of a big rig fire on the northbound 5 north of Balboa Boulevard in the truck lanes, said Margaret Stewart, a spokesperson with the Los Angeles Fire Department.

“The semi is on fire with a fuel leak,” Stewart said.

As a result of the fire, traffic is being impacted, according to officials.

The truck lanes at the 210 freeway appear to be the most heavily impacted, with the rest of the 5 freeway also backing up as trucks are redirected into regular lanes, according to a KHTS reporter at the scene.

As of 2:40 p.m., no lanes have been blocked, according to the California Highway Patrol.
