Trevor Habberstad, a Santa Clarita resident and stuntman who had roles in such major Hollywood pictures as “Ant Man” and “X-Men,” died of cancer Sunday. He was 27.
The Canyon High grad grew up in the Sand Canyon area of the Santa Clarita Valley and followed footsteps into the family business, earning membership as a stuntman into the prestigious ISA, the International Stuntmen’s Association.
Trevor Habberstad was with his family during a trip to Hawaii after filming a movie when he began to feel stomach pain. Doctors initially thought Trevor had appendicitis; however, after another evaluation, the diagnosis was changed to gastric cancer.
Up until recent weeks, the family had been optimistic on the potential, said Jeff Habberstad, Trevor’s father and an executive stunt unit coordinator, who directs stunt teams or units for movies.

“The cancer we found out Tuesday, about a week and a half ago, that it had gotten into his brain,” he said. “We were on a pretty good path, but when that hit…”
Habberstad got his start at age 5, according to Jeff, in a horse-riding scene with Andy Garcia in “Steal Big, Steal Little.” Shortly after, he was cast in “Face Off,” as the actor who played the son of John Travolta’s character.
While Trevor was an accomplished stuntman in his brief career, he was also a talented student and athlete while he was in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“Throughout their childhoods, all our kids have worked around films,” Jeff Habberstad said. “(Trevor) had to make the promise to me that he would graduate high school and go to college before I would help him in the business.”
In addition to enjoying skydiving and other outdoor activities, Trevor Habberstad competed in the decathlon for Washington State University after excelling in track at Canyon High.
“It was just natural for him to do,” the elder Habberstad said of his son’s career choice. “He was a great athlete, accomplished skydiver, just about anything he did he was excellent.”
Funeral services have not yet been scheduled at this time but more information will be added as it’s available.

Quality young man, such a shame. From what I read his parents did a fine job parenting him to be successful as it is evident he was. God bless and comfort his family and friends. I am very sorry for your loss.
The Sand Canyon Community is grateful to the Santa Clarita Valley Disaster Coalition for orchestrating this volunteer clean up event. They surely deserve to be recognized.

Trevor went to Washington State University, not the University of Washington. Big difference! As a proud Coug, I’m sure Trevor would have wanted this infomation to be printed correctly.
Thank you! Go Cougs! And he was one heck of a Coug!

I was one of his coaches at Canyon. This young man was such a gifted athete as well as a fine person. My condolences go out to his family.
Trevor was my 1st friend. My first memories were with him. I haven’t seen him in over 20 years. He lived across the street from me. I always knew that him and his family were doing movies and recently saw Debbie on the news b/c of the heavy rainstorms. When my sister told me what happened my heart broke. Even though it’s been so long I remember my first friend and kept up with his career. My heart goes out to Debbie, Jeff, Shane and Allie. Much love. The Arevalo’s will always be here for you all. Love you.
My heart goes out to his family. God bless.
Debbie and Jeff,
