Providence Southern California Contributes $12.3 Million To 2021 Community Non-Profit Partners

Celebrating a season of gratitude and sharing gifts, Providence is distributing more than $7 million this month to 35 partners to help meet the needs of our most vulnerable neighbors in the San Fernando Valley and the South Bay.

This brings to $12.3 million the health organization’s contributions to partners who share the Providence mission of outreach to those in need

As a not-for-profit organization, Providence identifies needs and invests in the communities it serves, grateful to work with partners that provide resources for those who are underserved, according to officials.

“We are driven by the traditions of our founders who sought like-minded partners in their mission of outreach to the poor and vulnerable,” said Bernard Klein, M.D., chief executive of Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills. “Providence believes partnering with experts expands its ability to help address critical needs. This teamwork brings to life our vision of Health for a Better World.”

In the Valley, a total of approximately $9 million has been distributed by Providence Holy Cross, Providence Saint Joseph Medical Center in Burbank and Providence Cedars-Sinai Tarzana Medical Center, according to officials.

In the South Bay, Providence Little Company of Mary Medical Centers in Torrance and San Pedro are providing approximately $3 million to community partners, according to Providence officials.

This funding helps provide housing, physical and mental health care for low-income individuals of all ages, dental care, long-term and home health care, pediatric therapies, preschool, child abuse prevention and therapy, job training and basic services such as food, showers and access to laundry facilities, according to officials.

The first round of funding, in May, was directed at safety net partners across the two areas. Funding this month was designed to develop partnerships among community organizations who are working with five distinct populations:  seniors, people experiencing homelessness, children and mental health and substance use.

“Providence services a broad swath of Southern California that has some of the nation’s most affluent enclaves within just miles of very low-income neighborhoods,” said Jim Tehan, executive director of community health investment for the Providence Los Angeles Service Area. “We are called to serve those most in need and accomplish that best by working with our safety net partners in underserved communities to reduce health disparities. We pay special attention to populations that experience barriers to health care.”

Recipients for this latest round of donations:

  • Center for Family Health and Education — Dr. Daryoush Kashani, MD, CEO
