Getting Ready For Summer Pests: Tips From Unipest Pest Control

As summer approaches in Santa Clarita, the warm weather brings an influx of outdoor activities, barbecues, and family gatherings.

Unfortunately, it also signals the arrival of various pests that can disrupt your peace and comfort.

From ants invading your kitchen to mosquitoes buzzing in your backyard, summer pests can be a major nuisance. Unipest Pest Control, a trusted name in Santa Clarita, is here to help you prepare and protect your home from these unwelcome guests.

Why Summer Pests are a Problem in Santa Clarita

Santa Clarita’s warm climate and dry summers create the perfect environment for pests to thrive. As temperatures rise, pests such as ants, mosquitoes, spiders, and rodents become more active, seeking food, water, and shelter. Here are some common summer pests in Santa Clarita:

  • Ants: Ants often invade homes in search of food and water, creating trails and nests in and around your property.
  • Mosquitoes: These blood-sucking insects are not only annoying but can also transmit diseases such as West Nile virus.
  • Spiders: Spiders, including dangerous species like black widows, can find their way into homes, posing a risk to residents.
  • Rodents: Rats and mice seek refuge from the heat and can cause significant damage to your property while spreading diseases.

Preparing for Summer Pests: Expert Tips from Unipest Pest Control

Unipest Pest Control offers comprehensive pest management solutions to keep your home pest-free during the summer months. Here are some expert tips to help you prepare:

1. Seal Entry Points

Pests can enter your home through the smallest cracks and openings. Inspect your property for potential entry points, such as gaps around windows, doors, and utility lines. Seal these openings with caulk or weatherstripping to prevent pests from gaining access.

2. Eliminate Standing Water

Mosquitoes breed in standing water, so it’s crucial to eliminate any sources of stagnant water around your home. Regularly empty and clean birdbaths, gutters, and flowerpots. Ensure that your yard has proper drainage to prevent water accumulation.

3. Maintain a Clean Home

A clean home is less attractive to pests. Keep your kitchen tidy by storing food in airtight containers, promptly cleaning up spills, and disposing of garbage regularly. Vacuum and sweep floors to remove crumbs and debris that can attract ants and rodents.

4. Trim Vegetation

Overgrown vegetation provides shelter and food sources for pests. Trim bushes, trees, and shrubs away from your home’s exterior to reduce hiding spots. Keep your lawn mowed and remove any debris or leaf litter that can harbor pests.

5. Use Pest-Repellent Plants

Certain plants can naturally repel pests. Consider planting herbs like basil, mint, and rosemary around your home to deter mosquitoes and other insects. Marigolds and lavender are also effective at keeping pests at bay.

6. Schedule Regular Pest Inspections

Regular pest inspections by a professional pest control service like Unipest can identify potential issues before they become major problems. Our experienced technicians can detect signs of pest activity and implement preventive measures to keep your home pest-free.
