How To Keep Your Cat And Pets Away From Your Christmas Trees

Dr. Jamie Ronchetto from Cinema Vet in Santa Clarita talks about the upcoming holidays and the ongoing issue of cats attacking those Christmas trees.

There have been so many videos online showing how cats just love jumping on their owners’ Christmas tree. Although these videos can be hilarious they are often a nightmare for owners who have to pick up those ornaments off the grounds and get the cleaning.

Cats love attacking those Christmas trees and according to Ronchetto, cats love climbing trees. Cats are naturally very curious creatures, so when they see a Christmas tree they automatically want to explore it.

According to Ronchetto, cats just love knocking everything over, and though there is no obvious explanation for this, Ronchetto seems to think cats are just curious about how gravity works.

In order to keep your cat away from the Christmas tree, Ronchetto suggests maybe putting some fencing or baby gate to keep the pets away. She even talks about seeing some creative techniques used by pet owners where they just hang up their Christmas tree.

At the end of the day, you just have to be prepared for the consequences of having an animal during the holidays and the intrigue they will have when they encounter this tree indoors.

Many owners seem to go for the spray bottle method, but most cats really don’t care, and they will still continue to attack your tree.

On the serious end, many people seem to have the suspicion that Christmas trees are poisonous to our furry friends.

According to Ronchetto, artificial ones are a good alternative. They are easier to maintain, they don’t need all that maintenance of being watered, and they won’t cause any kind of allergic reaction which can sometimes happen.

Ronchetto says artificial trees are a great option for people with pets. She also says to watch out for the harm decorations could pose for your furry friend.

Ronchetto says tinsel and ribbons can be very dangerous for your cats’ stomach and intestines if they eat it. The same assumption can be made for dogs and wrapping paper.

About Carl Goldman

Carl Goldman, along with his wife, Jeri repurchased KHTS AM-1220, Santa Clarita’s hometown station on October 24, 2003. They owned it from 1990-1998, and then sold it to Clear Channel Communication in 1998, buying it back from Clear Channel in 2003. Since then, they have rebuilt KHTS as a critical voice of the Valley. In 2015 the radio station moved to its new headquarters on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, in the original Newhall Hardware building. In 2018 an FM was added, 98.1, with its signal being simulcast with AM-1220. In January 2020, Carl and Jeri cruised on the Diamond Princess. He is still in recovery from the vaccine.
