Get Healthier Indoor Air Quality In Your Home

Poor air quality is a common alert issued in Santa Clarita Valley. High levels of ground-level ozone are typically a concern during the summer, particularly harmful to young children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health problems. Fortunately, this pollutant becomes less of an issue in the winter season. Nevertheless, it’s important for Santa Clarita Valley residents to keep the air inside their homes clean and healthy throughout the year. Indoor air pollution can be up to ten times worse than outside.

Use an air purifier

An air purifier can effectively trap and remove common pollutants like dust, pollen, smoke, pet dander, and odors from the air. Fresh, clean air is then pushed back out into your home. Air purifiers with ultraviolet light filters can even eliminate biological contaminants like viruses and bacteria. Alternatively, an air purifier bag provides the same benefits without the need for electricity. Bamboo charcoal air purifier bags work to trap and ionize harmful airborne particles, thanks to bamboo’s porous nature. They have a carbon filter that just needs placing in the sun for a few hours to clean it. Without the need for electricity and filter replacement, a purifier bag is a more affordable – and eco-friendly – solution to an electric air purifier.

Clean regularly

Keeping a clean home is key to maintaining healthy indoor air. Vacuum regularly with a powerful vacuum cleaner; this prevents dust and debris from collecting around your home and irritating your respiratory system. Be sure to vacuum hard-to-reach areas like under your sofa and bed, and empty the vacuum outdoors so the pollutants don’t go back into your home. Also, dust countertops and surfaces regularly with a damp cloth. You can beat rugs and cushions against outside walls to help rid them of dust. Additionally, always use eco-friendly and non-toxic cleaners, as conventional cleaners often contain toxic chemicals that contribute to indoor air pollution.

Decorate with houseplants

Living plants can purify the air in your home and soak up harmful pollutants. A NASA study found that Devil’s ivy, peace lily, and spider plant are some of the most effective at eliminating unwanted chemicals like carbon monoxide, benzene, trichloroethylene, and formaldehyde. These plants are also low-maintenance, and can thrive with minimal care.

Clean indoor air is essential for the good health of you and your family. With these tips, Santa Clarita Valley residents can better make sure the air in their homes is fresh, clean and safe all year round.

  1. Eliminate airborne pathogens, and offensive odors. Paint a permanent air purification system, onto the walls of your home or office for less than 7 cents per sq. Ft. No electricity, filters or servicing required.
