How Is Bulletproof Clothing Made?

Everyone wants to protect themselves at any cost, especially when we all live in an uncertain world. More specifically, if you work as a security guard, gas station attendant, or if you are an avid hunter, you must own bulletproof clothing articles. They provide you maximum protection against bullets.

The bulletproof jackets keep you safe from violence, fragmentation, and gun attacks. Whether it is for work, hobby, or just to feel safe, you might want to use a bulletproof vest to have that extra layer of security. Let’s learn more about bulletproof clothing along with its manufacturing process. Keep reading; you will be thrilled. Who knows, you might get yourself one as well!

What Is Bulletproof Clothing?

The most typical form of bulletproof clothing comes in the form of a bulletproof vest. One can trace the evolution of bulletproof clothing back to old armors but in a lighter and easily wearable form. Such vests or coats prevent the projectile attack such as a bullet fired from a gun. The primary purpose of these vests is to safeguard you against any sudden attack, be it from guns, bomb fragmentation, etc.

How Does A Bulletproof Vest Coat Protect You?

These bullet-proof vests, coats, or jackets take up firearm bullets’ effect and make them unsuccessful against your vital organs. Due to such products, you can become safer in high-alert areas. Mostly people belonging to security guards or gas station attendants wear bulletproof clothes, which keeps them safe from any sudden thieves’ attack. Also, it goes without saying that police and military rely on bulletproof clothing on a daily basis.

Manufacturing Process of Bulletproof Clothing

Making bulletproof clothing is a complex process that involves turning a lot of raw materials into a full bulletproof jacket. This is a fascinating process, and you will like it. Here is the breakdown of the manufacturing process of bulletproof clothes. And, there’s plenty of interesting facts in between!

Gather Raw Materials First

The very first step of the manufacturing process requires raw materials. Collecting or producing a lightweight yet strong filament and a piece of fabric comes first. Two popular, strong fibers are Kevlar® and Dyneema®. The first one comes from spinning the solid thread, while for the second, fiber is made from the polyethylene base by a gel-spinning process. Both of these fibers are extremely strong yet delicate and soft.

The Production of Yarn

The lengthy and continuous piece of interlocked fibers is called yarn. So, the bulletproof yarn production occurs by the weaving of those two raw materials gathered first. After the yarn is ready, it’s finally time to begin building bulletproof items.

Yarns into Sheet Materials

The yarn made from fabrics such as Kevlar is woven into sheets. Weaving actually provides a bulletproof surface against the firearm bullets. Multiple body armor companies use sheet material to craft the panels of a bulletproof jacket.

Industrial Cutting Machines Process

The giant industrial cutting machines are used to cut large ballistic material at a time. Since the ballistic material is extra thick and is considered to be super protective, it is greatly used in the paneling of a bulletproof jacket from both front and back.

The panels may vary in shape and size according to the jacket’s actual size. The jacket doesn’t reach the store like that. Instead, it goes through several thickness and protectiveness tests to determine whether the jacket’s fabric is now complete and ready to combat a bullet or not.

The Kevlar and Ballistic Panels Sewing

In this step, the proper ballistic panels are finally showing up. A machine sews different filaments to assemble a sewn plate. Kevlar will be stitched to craft the panels.

Put Ballistic Layer into a Cover or an Envelop

This step requires us to bring a heat-sealed protective cover or envelope. The sewn and cut pieces of ballistic material now go into the giant protection of a heat-sealed process, so they remain water and humidity-free. The heat-sealed cover also acts as a ballistic panel responsible for providing that bulletproof vest with supreme bullet-resistant traits.

Fitting Ballistic Panels into Carrier

In the final step, the just stitched ballistic panels are fixed into the specifically designed carriers. The ballistic panels now go into the ballistic carrier pockets to fit the human body. It is actually that ballistic panels and the carrier together provide the space for bullet resistance.

That’s all, folks. It is starting from super-strong fibers to bulletproof plates and vests. The process here is all done, hoping that you are now familiar with bulletproof clothing manufacturing.
