How Moving All By Yourself Can Be Stressful

Most people have been there, it’s moving day and you are up early in the morning, you wish you weren’t, because a long day of lifting heavy boxes and furniture is ahead of you. Rarely does a day of moving go according to plan. Something always ends up going wrong, somebody always ends up getting stressed, and the day just ends up being a total nightmare. Let’s look at some of the ways moving by yourself can be stressful and how to best prepare for the difficult day.

Approaching with the Wrong Attitude

Surely everyone is in agreement that something is bound to go wrong during a move but that’s one of the most important aspects of getting ready for a move. It is important to realize that this is going to be a stressful day, plans will go wrong, and there will be lots of frustration to be had. It is important to mentally prepare yourself and accept that these things are going to happen and approach these issues with as much of a cool head as possible. Stress is a normal human response to a demanding circumstance which means it’s not necessarily a bad thing and accepting that stress and working with it can actually make you a more productive and stronger individual.

Not Enough Time

Most people are guilty of doing it, putting aside the important tasks until later because it either intimidates them or we are just too lazy to do it.  Well, on moving day it all catches up with you. All that procrastination can mean that it just might not be physically possible to get all the work done that day. Imagine booking an elevator for a time slot and not getting all your belongings into your new place. Then you have to go through the process of rebooking a new moving elevator or even having to rent another truck or van for another day and extending your move and cost by that much more. That’s a lot to pay for just because of a little bit of procrastination and not having enough time.

Trying to do it all yourself

A lot of people don’t like to count on other people for help. For some, it makes them feel weak, to some people it makes them feel like they look needy, for whatever reason it may be, it is hard to ask others for help. Moving day is one of those days where a lot of friends should step up to the plate and help you because moving alone sucks. There’s only so much one person can do physically before getting exhausted. So next time you think you’re going to go about moving everything yourself just try and call a buddy over, bribe them with a little bit of beer or pizza, (obviously not before driving to the new location.) Having a friend help you out with the work will also mean splitting up the really hard tasks and taking turns between them so you don’t tire yourself out as quickly. You don’t even need to get your friend to help just as long as they’re there to keep you company and keep your morale up, that can make a big difference.

Not Hiring the Professionals

Moving is one of those tasks that everyone thinks they can do themselves and save a bit of money. People think that right up until the moment everything starts going wrong.  According to the experts at https://www.theremovalsgroup.com.au/, there is a reason professional moving companies exist, it’s because moving day is horrible,  and they are very good at what they do. That being said, a moving company is well worth the money.  A couple of hundred dollars is not such a bad trade when you think about how much stress you can omit, how much lifting effort you can escape, and how much easier your day is going to be because somebody else will do it for you. Professional moving companies are great because they offer a variety of services and have everything in place that you could possibly need for moving.  They have all the trucks you may need, all the labour is ready to go, any equipment such as dollies and straps are all there, and if you’re the type, certain companies even offer packing and unpacking services. All you have to do is lift a finger and point, they can make moving that easy nowadays.

Conclusion

So, if it wasn’t obvious enough, moving by yourself is a daunting task that will always prove difficult. If you intend on moving alone there are things you should do beforehand to prepare. Make sure you go into the moving day with the right attitude, accept that things will go wrong and that the day will be stressful. Always give yourself enough time, plan your moving day accordingly,  but I recommend adding an extra 25% time to your schedule, just as an extra buffer in case things start going the wrong way. Trying to do it by yourself is definitely possible but usually, a bad idea. Try getting some friends to help you, you might even turn it into a day of fun. Lastly, consider the idea of hiring professionals to do the work for you. It’s a load off your back and you never know… you might save yourself an extra day of hassle by avoiding something that could have gone wrong if you tried it yourself. So, as your moving day approaches and you have some planning to make, consider getting some help for your big day. Good luck and happy moving!
