What Do Dave Roberts And The Dodgers Have In Store For Us In The Fall?

We are rapidly approaching the MLB post-season and teams are chasing the playoffs. But one team seems to be sitting firmly on top of their division. That team is the Los Angeles Dodgers.

At this point, the best sportsbooks online have the dodgers as the odds-on favorites in the National League to win the Fall Classic. The only team with better odds comes out of the American League; the Houston Astros.

At the time of writing, Dave Roberts’ squad has 97 wins. They are a full 20 games ahead of the Arizona Diamondbacks, who are currently riding second-place in the division. The Dodgers have just 11 regular-season games left – as of today. So they are a mathematical lock to ride into the playoffs as the winners of the NL West.

So what can we expect from Roberts this post-season?

Dave Roberts came under fire last October due to what was largely seen as mismanagement during Game 4 of the World Series. It effectively cost the Dodgers their shot at putting on the ski goggles to celebrate by spraying bubbly all over the locker room.

After the loss, President Trump Tweeted – as he often does–  “Roberts made a huge mistake!” Roberts ignored the jab and only responded in a recent interview, stating, ‘You have to consider the source. Which is sad, because that’s the leader of our country.’

He went on to say that one trip to the District of Columbia is enough – speaking of playing the Nationals in Washington. So it safe to assume that if he does complete his goal of winning the World Series in 2019, he won’t be visiting the White House.

So there is one thing we can expect. They have to win first but don’t expect Dave Roberts to visit the president.

Another thing we can expect is a 104-win season. The Dodgers top the MLB power rankings and projections boards and are on pace win 104 or more! The only other team in the National League that might break 100 is the Braves, but they are would have to win seven of ten to do so. Atlanta is projected to hit a 99-win season, which isn’t too shabby. It’s been a bit easier over in the AL. The Yankees and Astros are both projected to hit the 105-win-mark and there are multiple teams that will pass the 90-win-mark.

The Wildcard picture is looking more and more like it will be the Chicago Cubs vs. the Washington Nationals. If the Cubbies win, Dave Roberts will look to increase his 2019 record against Chicago. So far during the regular season, the Dodgers have played the Cubs six times and came out victorious on four occasions. The same goes for their record against the Nationals. LA is 4-2 against Washington in 2019. So, it doesn’t really matter who wins. That said, the matchup against the Nationals favors the Dodgers a little more.

The final thing we can expect is that perhaps Roberts won’t pull a hot pitcher riding a one-hitter through five innings when the Dodgers are up 4-0 in the World Series. Although he did it to protect his pitcher, sometimes it might be better to hand the ball back … even if your pitcher hands you the ball when you walk towards the mound from the dugout.
