The Social Media Age we built and now exist in has warped our society’s ideals of self-worth. So much of what we use to promote our lives is viewed by others through the prism of Facebook or Instagram, and sometimes it isn’t realistic. Getting all of those likes releases that feel-good dopamine in the brain that can result in a reliance on external forces to be happy.
“She got 100 likes on her selfie and I only managed to get 30.” Just like that feelings of inadequacy can harm the perception someone has of themselves and can result in serious depression.
In the wrap-up of the show, Malena urges folks to balance your life with social media. You don’t have to always post the great things about your life when that isn’t reality. Don’t be a facade. It won’t hurt to post some things that show your human nature, and bring levity to social media.
