Santa Clarita Gazette Radio Hour – January 29 2016

Doug and John are joined by Kathryn Barger, who will be running for Supervisor in Los Angeles County’s Fifth District during the 2016 Election taking place in June. Ms. Barger and the guys discuss, among other topics, her stance on changes to the minimum wage and the rippling effects it would have should it be altered. Ms. Barger also addresses the homelessness situation in our valley and how we should rethink the mental health laws that’re currently on the books.

From Ms. Barger’s website kathrynbarger.com:

Kathryn Barger is the only candidate for County Supervisor who was born, raised, and is a lifelong resident of the Fifth District. After earning a BA in Communications from Ohio Wesleyan University, Kathryn began her career working in the private sector. Her interests in public service led her to return home where she went to work for Mike Antonovich. For the past 15 years, Kathryn has been Chief Deputy Supervisor where she manages the Supervisor’s Office and serves as the official liaison with community and local business groups. She has strong ties to them, knows their problems and delivers results. Kathryn is also an expert on healthcare, mental health and children’s issues because of her work with Supervisor Antonovich. He has encouraged her to run and endorsed her candidacy for Supervisor.

KHTS Senior News Director Heather Harbin joins the guys in studio to deliver some of the latest news and happenings in the Santa Clarita Valley. Ms. Harbin informed Doug and John of a fatal accident involving a 74 year old man and an 85 year old woman that occurred in Granary Square on Tuesday. Ms. Harbin also has details regarding a local Santa Clarita resident arrested in connection to the fatal shooting outside of a Newhall apartment complex that occurred last week.

The guys were also joined by Barry Agin, who will play Otto Von Brunno in the Canyon Theatre Guild’s production of “Bullshot Crummond.” The play opens tonight, Friday, January 29 and will run every weekend for the next three weeks.

Kyle Jellings and Mr. Sports join the guys on-air to discuss the biggest news in the sports world, including a flip-flop decision by the Chargers to stay in San Diego,MLB Free Agency/National League preview, and the Cleveland Cavaliers coaching carousel.
