On this episode of The Senior Hour, our hosts Barbara Cochran and Dr. Thomas Polucki welcome in special guests Kevin MacDonald from the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center and Miles McNamara from Comfort Keepers Inn!

The hosts open the show by speaking with Kevin who discusses the annual appeal campaign for the Santa Clarita Valley Senior Center. The appeal campaign is the yearly fundraising that the senior center relies on for its funding so that they may continue to serve the seniors of Santa Clarita. With great numbers in already, Kevin discusses how these contributions will allow the center to provides all of its activities, including zumba, tai chi, art classes, and much more.

Barbara concludes the chat with a special holiday gift for Kevin, a donation to the senior center on behalf of the Cochran family.

Later, Miles McNamara joins the show to discuss the upcoming holiday season and how families can ensure their loved ones are safe, healthy and happy during this time of year. Rather than another “knick-knack” Miles advises families to be present with their older family members and really show them the love and care they need.

“Take them to lunch, spend time with them, that over a gift, folks think about it,” Miles said. “Use your five senses when you see them. Give them a hug have they lost weight? Smell, has their personal hygiene dropped a bit? Taste, let them cook a meal, are they using too much salt? These are the things you can do.”
