Guests: Wallace Schilling, Retired Burbank PD; Nola Aronson, Advanced Audiology
Topic: Creating a purposeful holiday season
Senior Hour – December 2, 2015
In the first segment of the show Dr. Gene Dorio (without Barbara who is home feeling under the weather) welcomes Wallace Schilling, a retired Burbank PD Detective to discuss the latest trending scams impacting seniors.
Schilling urges listeners to understand that 1) you cannot win the lottery in other countries if you are not a citizen of that country and 2) the U.S. government will take their money first. Meaning the gov’t will not require you to send money to them in order to release your winnings they tax the money immediately so under no circumstances send money to anyone asking!
A new scam that came about just this week is something that Gene brought up with Wally regarding jury duty. Seniors are getting letters in the mail that look like official summons for duty but say the person is late and ask for personal information so that they can steal. Don’t give out your personal information under any circumstances without properly vetting first!
In the second segment, Dr. Dorio brings on regular guest Nola Aronson from Advanced Audiology to further the discussion of the importance of hearing health. “Just like you go to get a check up for your eyes, or other parts of your body, you should do the same for your ears,” Nola urges. Even if it may be something as simple as needing to clean earwax out, maintaining good hearing health allows the highest quality of life for seniors the top goal.
