Hosts: Dennis Kennelly
Guests: Leslie Wallis
Topic: Sexual Harassment + Marijuana in the Workplace
Mr. Kennelly tackles everyday issues facing employees, including severance packages, entering into labor agreements, discrimination, and termination warning signs, and rest/meal breaks and overtime pay.
During the first segment, Mr. Kennelly discusses the latest issue in Washington D.C. involving the U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions. Mr. Sessions is our nation’s chief law enforcement officer. Based off prior hearings, Mr. Kennelly does believe Mr. Sessions should have been more forthcoming, but he should not be tried for perjury.
He then moves to the topic of sexual harassment in the workplace. There are two types of this kind of pressure: quid pro quo and hostile work environment. Companies would like to have a sexual harassment-free environment, but, as Mr. Kennelly explains, it takes a tremendous amount of human resource capital. Mr. Kennelly answers questions from listeners regarding claims filed by employees.
Los Angeles employment lawyer Leslie Wallis phones into the program during the second segment to discuss the impact of the passage of Proposition 64 in last November’s election, making it legal for individuals to use and grow marijuana for personal use. Ms. Wallis explains, among other issues, which industries are cracking down on their marijuana enforcement policies and which are taking more lax stances.
Dennis Kennelly has been practicing employment law for over 40 years in California. In his career he has represented both companies and individuals in a wide range of Employment Law issues. These range from gender and race discrimination to whistle-blowing and retaliation.
Mr. Kennelly’s style is creative. The vast majority of employment cases do not go all the way to a jury verdict. As such the art is setting the case in a position to settle at the terms most favorable to his clients. Mr. Kennelly’s ability to weave out of the box solutions into settlements has often created results that no one considered at the outset.
In his representation of Employees, Mr. Kennelly’s approach is pro-active. He encourages clients to involve him in problems early on so that he can guide them to solutions that minimize the likelihood of claims arising after the fact. Mr. Kennelly’s employer clients have never been sued after following his counsel.
