Join Barbara Cochran and Dr. Thomas Polucki every Wednesday from Noon to 1 PM on your Hometown Station KHTS 98.1 FM & AM 1220 for The Senior Hour, your home for Senior Care and Lifestyle.

Today, Barbara and Dr. Polucki talk with Sondra Wollenman, a Nurse Practitioner at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. Sondra specializes in palliative care for adults facing acute and deadly illnesses.

She and her team focus on the whole person care, addressing their many needs such as symptom management, treatment plans and family needs. There is a study that shows patients who receive palliative care tend to live longer lives as their quality of life is improved with informed decisions and emotional support as well.

Sondra discusses the difference between palliative and hospice care pointing out that palliative is for patients who are newly diagnosed to those nearing the end of their life. Hospice is focused mostly on patients who are close to six months or less of life.

Sondra has been in nursing care at Providence Holy Cross Medical Center for four years.
