Distracted driving is one of the main concerns for parents of novice drivers.  Sentinel by VRM Telematics in Santa Clarita has a patented device that helps to teach teenage drivers safe driving skills.  The Sentinel technology monitors and reports in-vehicle cell phone use, as well as speeding, location, and time.   Parents can be notified via text or email in real-time when their teen is exhibiting risky driving behaviors.

Audio messages can be sent to the device to let the driver know that they should pull over safely and check their messages.   With this feature, parents can communicate with their teen without the use of a cell phone.  The Sentinel helps drivers develop the habit of putting their phone in airplane mode, or turning it off, while driving.  This habit completely eliminates the most dangerous of all distracted driving behaviors – cell phone use.
