Dink’s Deli In Valencia Closed After Health Inspection Due To ‘Vermin Infestation’

Dink’s Deli in Valencia is closed due to an alleged vermin infestation that was discovered during a health inspection this week, officials said Friday.

Los Angeles County Public Health Department officials conducted an inspection of Dink’s Deli on McBean Parkway Tuesday, which led to the revelation of the infestation, according to public filings by the department.

Officials reported finding evidence of cockroaches in the restaurant, prompting them to suspend their Public Health Permit, according to the Retail Food Official Inspection Report provided to KHTS by the Los Angeles County Public Health Department.

“Eliminate cockroaches and all evidence of cockroaches (e.g. egg capsules, dead cockroaches, fecal markings) from the facility by safe, legal and effective means at once,” reads an instruction in the report to the restaurant owner.

The Public Health official reportedly walked the owner through the restaurant and pointed out five observations they had made that demonstrated a violation of Health Code.

According to the report, these observations were:

  • One live nymph german cockroach was found on the floor under a shelf at the dough preparation area
  • One live adult german cockroach on a food container at the dough preparation area
  • One live adult german cockroach on the wall between the front and back preparation area
  • One egg casing and one dead german cockroach in a floor sink at the dough preparation area
  • One egg casing and multiple dead german cockroaches (approximately 10-15) on the floor (including under shelves and counters) at the dough preparation area

As a result of the infestation, the Valencia deli allegedly violated California Health and Safety Code 114259.1, which states: “The premises of each food facility shall be kept free of vermin.”

The Dink’s Deli location closed the day after the inspection on Aug. 7, with no planned date of reopening, according to the Department of Public Health.

The restaurant received a health score of 80 during the inspection, with the alleged vermin violation taking the total down 11 points, health officials said.

As of Thursday morning, a sign on the door of the Valencia restaurant said, “Sorry, we’re closed.”

A second Dink’s Deli location on Newhall Ranch Road, which is under the same ownership, remains open, according to employees at the restaurant.

Officials with Dink’s Deli were unreachable for comment as of the publication of this article.

  1. I’m sorry this occurred at Dink’s but it is & will remain one of my favorite places to get a quick, nutritious lunch in Santa Clarita

  2. The one on Newhall Ranch Road has the worst customer service.

  3. If its still the original owners they have always been kind of jerks

  4. If its still the original owners they have always been kind of jerks. But pretty good food so there you go.

  5. No love lost here. This establishment and any others that can not get control of vermin problem need to be shut down. We live just up the hill from this restaurant and love deli food, but this place never seemed to appreciate our business. Their food quality was mediocre, yet their pricing was high. Hopefully, a more deserving restaurant will take its place.
