Actor Danny Trejo talked with KHTS Radio Friday on the “My Radio Show With Rick Garcia,” discussing how he recently helped rescue a child from a car crash.

On Wednesday morning, Trejo witnessed a car crash in Sylmar that resulted in a child being trapped, he said.

“I was driving down the street looking at this lady driving next to me, and she didn’t seem to be paying attention,” Trejo said. “And when we were coming to a red light, I started slowing down so I honked to get her attention. She was dazed and blew right through the red light and hit an Explorer and flipped it over.”

After the collision, Trejo and another witness of the crash noticed a child was trapped in the back of the overturned Explorer.

With the help of the other witness, the two were able to pull open the crushed door, he said.

“If (the child) wouldn’t have been in his car seat, it might have killed him,” Trejo said.

Once Trejo was able to gain access to the car, he learned the trapped child had special needs.

Once Trejo was able to get the child out of the vehicle, he noticed he was started to tense up due to fear.

“I told (him), ‘No, we’ve got to use our superpowers,’” Trejo said. “I flexed my arm, and he said, ‘Superpowers.'”

Garcia also spoke to Trejo about growing up and his career, among other things.

Trejo is known for his work in “Spy Kids” and “Machete,” where he reprises his role in a spin-off film in the same movie universe.

“You are proof, sir,” Garcia said to Trejo during the show, “no matter what a person goes through, you can get up off the ground and get on your feet and make things happen.”
