Rain Causes Saugus Power Outage

As a result of the huge storm and rainfall that impacted the Southland Wednesday night and Thursday morning, over 1500 residents in Saugus were without power when they woke up Thursday.

It is still unclear what the exact cause of the outage is, but speculation leads to a possible transformer malfunction, which is common during storms.  The power went out shortly after 4:30 for many residents in Saugus, near Saugus High School, spreading as far north as homes in Plum Canyon.

Classes at Saugus High were never official cancelled, yet KHTS listeners reported students being told to turn around for 7:00 classes.  This put extra pressure on traffic leading up to 8:00 classes, as traffic was heavier all throughout the city because of the many spots with standing water.

KHTS covered the power outage up-to-the minute thanks to listener updates, calls frmo the school districts, Southern California Edison, and the Santa Clarita Sheriff's Substation.  In the event of more outages, floods, or other emergency as we progress through the Winter rainy season.

Stay tuned to KHTS for the very latest information on road and school closures and other pertinent emergency-related information.
