Riverpark — the controversial development planned for the north shore of the Santa Clara River that has drawn the ire of environmentalists — is back in the spotlight this week as the Santa Clarita Planning Commission resumes a series of hearings that could wrap up Tuesday…
Several environmental groups plan their second anti-Riverpark demonstration in front of City Hall on Tuesday as the 5:30 p.m. meeting convenes.
The project would add 439 single-family homes and 744 apartment units to a nearly 2-mile-long stretch of land extending eastward from the dead end of Newhall Ranch Road near Bouquet Canyon Road. Among the benefits to be derived from approving the project would be an extension of Newhall Ranch Road, which is due to connect to Golden Valley Road and form the cross-valley connector, easing traffic on Soledad Canyon Road.
The Planning Commission could OK Riverpark on Tuesday if commissioners decide The Newhall Land and Farming Co. has addressed the many issues raised over the project, said city planner Jeff Hogan.
