The Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation is set to donate books through their program “Page Turners” to Placerita Junior High School students.
“By providing books to students who would otherwise not be able to afford them or have little access outside of school, we hope to increase literacy and foster a lifetime love of reading,” said Jackie Hartmann, executive director of the Education Foundation.
Page Turners was developed to provide students with books who would otherwise have little to no access to them outside of school. The program priotizes high-risk students such as homeless youth, foster youth, students with disabilities and English Learners.
Students from Placerita Junior High are given a “golden ticket” for the event where they can choose books from nearly 30 different book titles.
The program is made possible due to a grant provided by Lockheed Martin AeroCARES. A total of $3,000 in books have been purchased so far.
“Our goal is to positively touch the lives of these students by providing them the gift of literacy,” Hartmann said. “The Foundation would love to be able to provide Page Turners at other junior high schools and is currently looking for donations to help make that happen.”

Are any Dick & Jane books in there? Or are they too American?
They are too boring! Also, unless you wear an apron and a dress all day and iron your husband’s shirts with a cherry pie in the oven, you’ll find that the books are not ones you can relate to!
I should have said that the SCV Education Foundation is doing a wonderful thing! Thank you
