Children who might have feared authorities saw the human side of law enforcers on Sunday…
Sheriff’s deputies at the Pitchess Detention Center watched more than 1,000 children of Pitchess inmates line up for a picture with Santa Claus and donated toys Sunday. The organizers of the 11th annual Santa’s Magic program meant to give children the opportunity to be able to see the law enforcers in a different light.
“You don’t feel as if you’re the outcast (during the event); the guy keeping dad in jail,” said Sheriff’s Deputy Robbie Royster. “(Kids) see their grandfather, father or brother put in jail by us … we want them to not be afraid of law enforcement, to feel comfortable approaching us.”
