A last-minute environmental find at the West Creek development site near San Francisquito Creek should “have no major impacts on the project,” a representative of The Newhall Land and Farming Co. said…
“We discovered a Western spadefoot toad in one area of the property and reported it immediately to the county,” Newhall Land spokeswoman Marlee Lauffer said.
The toad is not endangered, but is a species of concern. The project’s Environmental Impact Report will now have to be partially re-written.
The project was listed on Los Angeles County’s consent calendar Tuesday, but was postponed after the discovery of the toad.
West Creek has been in legal limbo for years with local environmental groups.
Santa Clarita Organization for Planning the Environment and Friends of the Santa Clara River sued the county after it approved the project in 1999.
