2019 Daylight Saving Time ‘Spring Forward’ Comes To Santa Clarita

March 10 marks the start of Daylight Saving Time, causing clocks across the world to “spring forward” one hour, including those in Santa Clarita.

Despite legal efforts in recent years to abolish the practice in California, Daylight Saving Time has come again, and Santa Clarita residents have set their clocks set an hour forward, giving an extra hour of sunshine at the cost of an hour of sleep.

Daylight Saving Time begins Sunday, March 10 at 2 a.m.

For Santa Clarita residents, Daylight Saving Time will last until Sunday, Nov. 3 when it will end and the clocks will “fall back” one hour.

Why do we use Daylight Saving Time?

Daylight Saving Time is now used in an assortment of countries, though there are some that have permanently moved to one standard. Several American states, including California have proposed a similar practice.

In November 2018, California voters passed Proposition 7 by a 60-40 percent margin, paving the way for year-round Daylight Saving Time.

The proposition still needs a two-thirds vote from the state legislature, as well as approval from Congress and President Trump, to go into effect.
