Through a medical device called an Amethyst Biomat, a combination of amethyst stones and fabrics are used to generate far infrared rays that warm the body internally, helping to increase blood circulation and lymph flow.

In addition, negative ions generated by a layer of natural tourmaline stone helps to neutralize the harmful effects of electromagnetic pollution and to relieve stress.

A core body temperature of around 97 degrees Fahrenheit is usually enough to promote sufficient immune function and healthy enzyme activity within the body, Kenneally explained, citing information provided by Richway, the company that produces the biomat.

Studies have shown that if a person’s body temperature should drop by only one degree, their immune function will begin to decline, with the opposite being true if temperature is increased by only one degree, she added, noting that a one-degree increase in core body temperature can increase enzyme production by as much as 40 percent.

Increased core temperature can also benefit the immune system in the production of T-cells, which help destroy infected cells, according to recent studies.

Researchers from Harvard Medical School even found that an increase in body temperature has the potential to weaken cancer cell activity due to their vulnerability to heat, according to Richway officials.

Additional benefits of amethyst far infrared body treatments can include joint and muscular pain relief, muscle relaxation, reduced overall body inflammation, stress reduction, improved sleep, reduced fatigue and calorie burning.

“Is heating up the body enough to improve our health? There are other factors to also consider: lifestyle choices, outside temperatures, medication, toxicity of our environment, psychological factors and stress levels,” Kenneally said. “Combining far infrared treatments with healthier choices in general will greatly increase our overall health.”
