Canyon Country Couple Charged With Child Cruelty After Being Served With Search Warrant

Two Canyon Country individuals were arrested this week and charged with felony cruelty to a child along with other felonies after the Special Enforcement Bureau and Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies served a search warrant, officials said.

Early Tuesday morning, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Enforcement Bureau, along with Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies, served a search warrant on the 18000 block of River Circle Drive in Canyon Country, said Shirley Miller, a spokesperson for the station.

“Detectives had received information that there was illegal activity going on at the house,” Miller said. “When deputies got there, they recovered a number of firearms including three assault type rifles, a shotgun, and a couple of handguns.”

The firearms were not properly stored and were in a location that was accessible to three children in the house.

The conditions in the house were also very unsanitary, according to officials.

“There was animal feces and urine in the house,” added Miller.

At the time of the search warrant, Rachel Manes, 34, from Canyon Country was taken into custody and charged with felony cruelty to a child, felon in possession of a firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and being in possession of a short-barreled rifle.

Detectives were able to locate a second suspect on Wednesday and took Robert Allen, 30, from Canyon Country into custody and charged him with cruelty to a child, along with drug charges and warrants.

The three children, ages 10, 11, and 14, are now in the custody of officials with the Department of Children and Family Services.

Three pitbulls and a lizard were also taken by animal control, according to officials.

The couple was transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station where they were booked.

Allen’s bail was set at $235,000 and Manes bail was set at $100,000, according to arrest records.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
