A Canyon Country man was arrested Monday on multiple felonies, including carjacking, after he allegedly pushed his mother before taking her car, officials said.
On Monday around 5:30 p.m., deputies responded to a vehicle theft call on the 14600 block of Water Lily Court in Canyon Country in which the victim’s son had stolen her vehicle, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.
“Upon arrival, deputies learned during a verbal argument the suspect, male adult, 23 years old, pushed the victim causing her to fall to the ground,” Arriaga said.
The suspect then allegedly stole the victim’s vehicle keys and cellphone, according to Arriaga.
The suspect fled the location in the victim’s vehicle, out of view, according to officials.
“As deputies canvassed the area for the vehicle, they located the vehicle driving westbound onto Water Lily Court from Abelia Drive in Canyon Country,” Arriaga said.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop and detained the suspect pending a carjacking investigation without incident.
The suspect Rueban Velasco, 23, from Canyon Country was arrested for robbery and carjacking, both felonies, Arriaga added.
The victim suffered minor injuries and was released on scene, according to officials.
Velasco was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $200,000, according to arrest records.
