Drawing hundreds of Santa Clarita residents throughout the day, the Castaic Lake Water Agency hosted their annual open house at Central Park on Saturday, giving residents a look at how they get their water.

“This is where we treat the water coming in from Castaic Lake,” said Karen Clark, a water conservation education specialist with the CLWA. “We’ve offered tours all day. They’ve been really popular — 20 minute tours seeing how the water gets cleaned.”
Residents are invited to the event every year to learn water conservation and gardening tips that can help them save money on water.
“We’ve been up here answering any questions anybody has,” Clark said.
Those who attended had the opportunity to learn about their home from a series of vendors and agencies in Central Park before making their way up the hill to the water agency to walk through the rose gardens.
“Placerita Canyon nature center is showing some of the animals that live here in the valley, and there’s lots of vendors out in Central Park,” Clark said. “We have a trolley that we have every year that brings people up to the actual site.”

“Everybody’s been having a great time touring the garden,” said Clark. “The roses are in bloom, and there’s a lot of different plants that are also in bloom [because of Spring].”
She added the near end of the drought has likely increased interest in the open house, due to the uncertainty of the weather over the past year.
Clark said the warm weather also helped bring people out to the park.
“It’s a great day. We’ve been really lucky with that,” she said. “We’ve had all sorts of weather in the past 13 years I’ve been doing this. So this has really been a great day.”
But, she said, the main reason people come out every year is to look at the plants and get tips for their own Spring garden.
“Because it’s springtime,” Clark said, “People are looking at planting their [own] gardens.
