City Officials To Host Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony For Sierra Highway Pedestrian Bridge

Members of the Santa Clarita City Council, representatives from the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans), city staff, community members and other elected officials are expected to gather for a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday celebrating the completion of the Sierra Highway pedestrian bridge.

The aim of the newly-installed prefabricated steel truss pedestrian bridge is to contribute to improved traffic circulation and trail connections, according to officials.

In addition to the bridge itself, the project included multiple street improvements on Sierra Highway’s western side, including the construction of a new bus turnout, a new sidewalk, a new bus shelter pad, enhanced access to ramps and crosswalks, parkway landscaping and a right-turn lane from the southbound side of Sierra Highway onto Golden Valley Road.

The intersections at Sierra Highway and Rainbow Glen Drive, as well as Sierra Highway and Golden Valley Road, also received pavement maintenance, traffic striping and signal modification allowing for u-turns and new street lights.

The federally funded project is part of the city’s Santa Clarita 2020 plan under the theme of “building and creating community,” according to officials.

The ceremony is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. on Friday, March 29 at the bridge, just north of the intersection of Golden Valley Road and Sierra Highway.

Parking for the event is expected to be available in the shopping center on the northeast corner of the Sierra Highway and Golden Valley Road intersection.

  1. Unfortunately the high school kids will continue to cross the streets instead of utilize the bridge.

  2. Are taking the crosswalks out? If not it was huge waste of money. Will wait to see. LOL
