A containment has been set up north of Castaic after a brief 5 Freeway pursuit ended when a stolen vehicle suspect fled across the freeway on foot.

UPDATE: At 11:45 a.m., law enforcement located the suspect, and took him into custody, according to Sheriff’s officials.

See Original Story: Around 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, deputies located a stolen vehicle on Golden State Highway and the 5 Freeway.

“It was a Sheriff’s pursuit,” said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office.

The suspect reportedly fled on foot on the southbound 5 Freeway before hiding in the nearby vegetation, according to officials.

“We had a visual of the suspect walking on the Freeway near Templin,” Greengard said. “The suspect ran from us.”

A containment was set up in the area as law enforcement officials worked to locate the suspect.

“We are currently working hand-in-hand with CHP,” said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

The suspect eventually surrendered to deputies after hiding in a “muddy trench,” Arriaga said in a social media post.

After the deputies took him into custody, they found paperwork that showed the suspect was arrested for being in a stolen vehicle a few days ago, Arriaga added.
