Dodgers Make History With Three Straight Walk Off Wins In A Row

The Dodgers swept the Colorado Rockies over the weekend with record-setting drama, back-to-back-to-back games with rookies winning it with a homer. No club in Major League Baseball’s history has ever had three rookies hit walk-off home runs in three straight games.

First, it was 26-year-old Matt Beaty’s homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Friday night to cap one of the greatest complete game pitching performances in recent Dodgers history. Walker Buehler struck out sixteen Rockies’ hitters without allowing a walk, and Beaty ensured he’d get the win with the walk-off home run.

Next, it was Rookie of the Year candidate Alex Verdugo’s turn Saturday night, crushing a solo bomb (his second of the game) in the bottom of the eleventh inning for the 5-4 win. The 23-year-old is second on the team in batting average at .302.

Finally, it was Will Smith who yesterday sent Dodger Stadium into a fervor with a pinch hit 3-run shot in the ninth inning of a 3-3 game to secure a third consecutive win. Called up at the end of May, it was Smith’s second walk-off homer in June. He only has three home runs so far this season. Two of which have ended games.

The 2018 season was a bit of a grind in getting back to a second straight World Series. This 2019 team is making it look easy and doing it with style, a la 2017.

Los Angeles has opened a 7.5 game lead on the next best team in the National League, and moved three games clear of Minnesota for the best record overall (homefield advantage in the World Series).

They’re on pace for 110 wins.

Is the team better than the 2017 version?
