Drug, Alcohol-Related Crimes Dominate Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests

Between Friday, Nov. 15, and Sunday, Nov. 17, law enforcement in Santa Clarita Valley made 24 arrests for various offenses, ranging from misdemeanors to felonies.

Deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Department were responsible for 20 arrests, while California Highway Patrol’s Newhall Office officers made the remaining four.

Of the 24 arrests, 14 were for misdemeanor charges, while the other 10 were felonies. Drug- and alcohol-related crimes dominated the statistics, with five arrests for driving under the influence (DUI) and six drug-related offenses. Three of these drug charges involved possession in public, and three occurred while the offenders were already in jail.

Other significant charges included one battery, one assault likely to cause great bodily injury, and one assault with a deadly weapon (non-firearm) causing great bodily injury.

The weekend also saw one arrest for shoplifting, one for carrying a concealed weapon in the form of a dirk or dagger, one for public drunkenness, and one for taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent.

Additional charges included carrying a loaded firearm, driving with a suspended license, two instances of domestic violence, and one case of petty theft. One arrest remains categorized under an unknown charge.
