Fiery Head-On Bouquet Canyon Crash Results In ‘Major Injuries’

A fiery head-on Bouquet Canyon crash Wednesday morning resulted in one person being hospitalized with “major injuries,” officials said.

Around 6:35 a.m. Wednesday, first responders received reports of a head-on crash involving fire on Bouquet and Spunky Canyon Roads north of Santa Clarita, said Marvin Lim, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“There was no spread to brush,” Lim said of the fire.

Firefighters were able to have the vehicle fire knocked down by 7:03 a.m., according to Lim.

“The driver of a Toyota Camry was unsafely passing vehicles over double yellow lines, in the middle of a blind curve and subsequently went head-on with an oncoming early model Chevrolet Corvette,” said the California Highway Patrol Antelope Valley Area Office in a social media post.

Fortunately, both parties survived the collision, but the driver of the Camry sustained major injuries, while the driver of the Corvette sustained moderate injuries, according to CHP officials.

“Only one was transported to the hospital,” Lim said.

“As a reminder to us all, the double yellow lines are there for a reason. The safe passing zones are only where the lines are broken with adequate visibility,” the post said. “If you’re finding yourself passing over double yellow lines, perhaps you should leave earlier or find a road with more lanes to suit your needs.”

  1. What you talkin about Willis

This Sh*t needs to stop . People from the Antelope Valley haul ass through the canyon while crossing over double yellow lines on a daily basis. I’ve almost been involved in half a dozen head-on collisions and thank god there was a shoulder aka dirt on the side of the road to quickly pull over to. I blame the driver as well as our Law Enforcement. Today is a perfect example of what can happen when those who do not value their life or others on the road. Thank god no one was killed but I bet nothing will happen to the driver that caused this. I’m sure zero citations were issued and this driver will not learn from this lesson due to the penalty wasn’t severe enough. Hey douchebag Gov. Newsom why don’t you pass a law that will revoke peoples license for up to a year if they cause accidents like this. Less idiots on the road is what we need plus with less moron drivers equals less emission and everyone wins. People forget that driving is a privilege and not a Right. I’m sure the people living up Bouquet are tired of the sirens at all hours.

    • The Governor cannot create laws by fiat. Contact Sen. Wilk and ask him to draft legislation.

      • The governor can tell CHP to step up enforcement. Insurance companies know when some of their customers are driving crazy. (At least the drivers who gave their carriers access to smartphone GPS data. That’s a clock, speedometer and a map.)
I’ve seen cyclists pretending the area between the stripe and the shoulder is a bike lane. That is mui loco.

    • I absolutely agree with you. I too drive the canyon daily and have almost been hit several times. Something needs to be done.

    • I agree with your penalty assessment. I ride a motorcycle thru the canyon somewhat frequently. However, I don’t blame our law enforcement… Gov has crippled their ability to enforce anything
      .

  2. Agreed. The canyon needs to be for residents ONLY during high traffic hours. Make everyone commuting from Antelope Valley take the freeway. If they are going to use the back roads they should be tolled. Something needs to change.

    • What if I was to say you can’t use the freeway because the Canyon is closed. That freeway should only be for residents in the area!!!!!

That is ridiculous, “THE CANYON NEEDS TO BE FOR RESIDENT’S ONLY DURING HIGH TRAFFIC HOURS”. We all pay for the right to use that road. I agree people do drive to crazy through the canyon. I hate driving it too, at times.

  3. Sanfrancisquieto is worse, people come around the curve on your side of the road all the time.

  4. Let’s not forget the drivers who are telling other drivers when the CHP is out looking for speeders and crazy drivers like this one, by flashing their headlights (which is also illegal). Those people are only encouraging these people to drive fast. Obviously they do so themselves.

  5. What if I was to say you can’t use the freeway because the Canyon is closed. That freeway should only be for residents in the area!!!!!

    • Bouquet and San Fran are DESIGNATED MOUNTAIN roads. They were not intended for high speed commuter tfc.
And then the commuters have no qualms crossing the double line placing others in danger.
Enough. Drive sanely or get over to the 14. .

  6. The bottom. Line is that the 14 was NOT made for and intended for commuting
Bouquet and San Fran are specifically designated as MOUNTAIN Roads with NO
Intention to be used as a heavily traveled road for commuters.
And then the commuters, who should be on the freeway, add salt by traveling at high speeds
And CrOSSING the double lines because they HAVE to go faster.
Enough! Drive like a responsible adult or get over to the 14 with the herd.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
