Former Trump Advisor George Papadopoulos Discusses Candidacy For Congress

George Papadopoulos, a former foreign policy advisor to President Donald Trump, announced his campaign for California’s 25th Congressional District on Monday’s episode of the news talk show, “Fox and Friends.”

Papadopoulos is said to be running to promote an “America First Agenda.”

While this ideology hasn’t been clearly defined by the campaign, the idea of “America First” has appeared previously on the American political scene.

The slogan has been invoked by multiple past presidential candidates, including Woodrow Wilson, Warren Harding and Donald Trump.

The phrase also carved a place in American cultural history with the “America First Committee,” established in 1940 to advocate against the United States entering into the second world war.

“I chose to make California my home when I left Washington, DC nearly two years ago,” Papadopoulos said in an official statement.  “It is a state with tremendous potential, but the governing leadership is driving it to the ground and too many Californians are suffering due to the bad policies coming out of Sacramento and Washington. The 25th Congressional District was a seat held by Republicans for 26 years. It’s time to return the seat back to Republicans and support the ideals of the district and putting ‘America First.’”

Papadopoulos left Washington, DC nearly two years ago following his arrest after allegedly making false statements to FBI agents related to connections between the Trump presidential campaign and Russian government agents.

More than a year after his initial arrest, Papadopoulos pleaded guilty as part of a plea bargain reflecting cooperation with Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference into the 2016 presidential election.

Papadopoulos noted he “laments” that Californians think the Republican party needs to advance, and cannot be the same Republican party as other states. Papadopoulos claims this progress is what turns California’s “blood red” districts blue, and led to the Republican party’s extinction, according to officials.

“I’m running for the 25th Congressional District to promote the America First Agenda and to enact legislation that has positive real-life consequences for the American people and my constituents,” Papadopoulos said.

  1. The last thing the 25th District needs is a convicted felon who has no clue about us, what we need, etc.
