“We had six deceased,” said Captain Keith Mora with the Los Angeles County Fire Department. “Two were transported by helicopter (to a local trauma center).”

A minivan believed to be stopped in the slow lane near Frazier Mountain Park Road due to an earlier two-car collision was rear-ended by a semi-truck and driven into a ditch, Mora said.

First responders were dispatched to the scene at 3:30 a.m. after receiving a report that a van was fully engulfed in flames over the side of the 5 freeway.

CHP officials are still investigating the crash, but believe that the earlier traffic collision left the minivan unable to get out of the way of the truck.

“The minivan became disabled in the slow lane,” said Officer Frank Romero with the Fort Tejon CHP. “Then the semi hit it.”

The identity and ages of the six victims were not being released as of 9:30 a.m.Tuesday.

A SigAlert was issued for Frazier Mountain Park Road at 6:30 a.m., with the two right lanes blocked until further notice. Officials are reporting traffic to be slow through the scene.
