Los Angeles County election officials are reporting that incumbent County Supervisor Kathryn Barger has gained the most votes in the primary race for the 5th District.
“I am grateful to the voters of Los Angeles County, 5th District, for providing me with what looks like a very promising night,” Barger said in a statement. “I also congratulate my opponents for stepping into the arena and reminding voters that we live in a world of choices and government that serves the people.”

As of Wednesday, Barger took in 134,244 votes, racking up 59.37 percent of the total votes counted thus far.
This result follows a decades-long trend, as no incumbent county supervisor has been voted out of office since 1980.
In second place behind Barger in early results is Sierra Madre Mayor John Harabedian, with 46,892 votes, or 20.74 percent.
The final tally is expected to change as mail-in ballots are counted over the next several weeks.
