Thomas Dillingham, 40, is being charged with one count of kidnapping a victim under 14 with use of a knife, and one count of assault with a deadly weapon, a knife.
Dillingham faced a judge in court on Wednesday, where district attorney’s officials say he was found to be unable to assist in his own defense.
“He was found incompetent to stand trial,” said Ricardo Santiago, a spokesman for the District Attorney’s Office. “He’s in a state hospital right now.”

He then returned to his own residence, located in the same mobile home park.
When the girl’s grandfather went to the suspect’s residence and sought the child’s return, the suspect allegedly refused.
Sheriff’s deputies were able to recover the child and arrest Dillingham a short time later.
The toddler was transported to Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital “out of an abundance of caution,” Lt. Bryan Aguilera with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station said at the time of the incident, adding that the child had “no visible signs of injuries or trauma.”
