A Long Beach man was identified as the suspect killed in a deputy-involved shooting Wednesday afternoon just north of Castaic.
Adrian Joel Sanchez, 34, from Long Beach was the suspect killed, said Sarah Ardalani, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office.
Around 12:15 p.m. Wednesday, a deputy made a traffic stop on the southbound 5 Freeway just north of Templin Highway north of Castaic, according to a statement from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

“A Deputy from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle on a frontage road of the southbound I-5 Freeway approximately one mile north of Templin Highway in Gorman,” the statement read.
During the traffic stop, the deputy had Sanchez exit the vehicle and was escorting him back to his patrol car when the suspect broke free and ran, according to Sheriff’s officials.
“The suspect ran up an embankment, deputy returned to his patrol car, and reversed to an access road,” Sheriff’s officials said.
“At which time the suspect ran back to his vehicle. The deputy chased on foot. An altercation ensued at the door of the suspect’s vehicle.”
Sanchez drove away, dragging the deputy with him.
Sanchez crashed through a chain-link fence leading to the southbound 5 Freeway shoulder.
“He then crashed again through the fence back to the frontage road and a deputy involved shooting occurred,” the statement read.
The suspect was struck by gunfire and pronounced deceased at the scene, according to officials.
“A handgun was recovered at the scene where the suspect was sitting,” Sheriff’s officials said. “The deputy was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries and has been released.”
The investigation into the shooting remains under investigation.

Holy cats!
Glad the deputy is ok!!
I’d be interested in follow up information like did the dead guy commit another crime before being pulled over, was he on parole, did he have warrants.
Glad that guy is dead and can’t harm anyone ever again
He wasn’t on parole and has no history of violence. It seems like during this who incident, the suspect never intended violence toward the police officer. All violence seems to come directly from the police officer. As far as the dragging being blamed on the suspect, he would’ve had to forcefully make the officer be dragged like tying him to the car which is clearly evident that this was not the case. The officer willingly chose to hold on. It says that the suspect was walking to the patrol car with the officer meaning he complied up until the point he was near the car which seems like something scared him at that moment. If he wasn’t going to imply, he could’ve just drove off as soon as the cop tried to pull him over. There would’ve been no reason for him to get out in the first place.
KMS – This is a reply to you. Your a sensitive asshole. Your words are cruel. This young man was husband a son, grandson, nephew, cousin and a friend. Very much loved by his family. For you to write your glad he died shows you have no heart. This is a tragedy and answers will all be brought out to the light. He did not deserve to die this way. Don’t speak on someone you never knew. KMS I pray when your time comes you don’t pass away tragically. Watch your words!!! You are what you speak and reap what you sow. My condolences to the family of Adrian.
Adding to my comment. Adrian was a father. His youngest children will only remember his face by pictures. He loved his children and was taken away to early. Justice for Adrian. Pray that his family gets all there questions answer and why this happen the way it did. With the loss of a man murdered by a officer. Adrian was not a violent man. The only weapon he had was his bright smile. RIP …
Stella were you there? Cops don’t go driving around shooting people. You are a joke. If they did, you’d be in a world of trouble ?
Where you there?? Are you family member or friend of the cop. You need to shut up and sit. Your talking on something you don’t know. We don’t have all the answer right now but we will. Fool is you. For your smart ass comment finding myself in trouble if cops where out shooting Thats just a stupid opinion on your part. Now shu away!!!
So KMS.. Lmao. Do you know of someone that was personally hurt or injured by the murder victim? Ya, I didn’t think so. You’re very opinionated but you know nothing. If you’re trying to refer to the pig who murder this man as being hurt by the victim.. the suspect (cop) could have let go at any time. Not to mention if you are escorting someone to your patrol car there’s a 99% chance he was in cuffs. For him to break free, run up an embankment down the embankment jump in his vehicle and drive off, all while being handcuffed? No body cam no dash cam.. sounds a little SUSPECT! to me. And you being glad he is dead,. Smh.. the world would most definitely be a better place without people like you!
Let me tell you a little about Adrian
Psalm 127:5
Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! (Children) He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.
Adrian had a quiver full and he loved everyone of them and provided for everyone of them. All with one woman his beloved wife whom he also loved very dearly.
Adrian was loved and admired by his pastor and his church congregation.
Adrian was a supervisor and a well respected leader in his place of employment.
Adrian always and I mean ALWAYS had a smile on his face. Willing to help out anyone family friend or strangers.. didn’t matter he was that guy.
For you to be glad he’s dead. You’re a fool! Anyone who has ever known him or has met him even if just for Monet would declare otherwise.
Perfect.. by no means. Deserving.. by no means!
Everything done in the dark will be brought to the light. Justice WILL be served!

“The investigation into the shooting remains under investigation.”
Why is the investigation under investigation?
Dead serious question… without knowing the “colors” of either involved, and you read this scenario and immediately decide the sheriff was out of line, too aggressive, or whatever … please explain your thought process in which leads you to presume the Sheriff was in the wrong. I just don’t get it.
I’m looking more into the gaps. For instance, if the cop was already in his patrol car chasing the suspect (who was running on foot), why would he get OUT of the car and chase the suspect after he ran to his car? And why would he hold onto the car when he could’ve just shot the tires to stop the car? And why was there a fatal shooting AFTER the crash? That means he shot the suspect while he was in his car and had nowhere to go which means it was an unnecessary kill. And my last question is why was he even pulled over in the first place? Why was he asked to get out of his car for a ROUTINE traffic stop? Have you ever been asked to get out of the car and walk to the patrol car to get a speeding ticket or any other type of traffic stop??
Gazelle, Sign up. Make a difference since you think you can do a better job than the current Officers. Until you are in their shoes, stop running your mouth and you do nothing to improve a single thing. Can you get hired to Sheriff Dept? Do you have a criminal record? Bad credit? Psych issues?
Sit down then. ?
