Lunafest 18th Annual Women’s Film Festival Set To Come To Newhall

Lunafest, the 18th Annual Women’s Film Festival, is set to come to Newhall in September.

The event, hosted by SCV Zonta, is set to take place at Canyon Theater Guild in Newhall on September 13, 2019.

The fundraising film festival is dedicated to promoting awareness about women’s issues, highlighting women filmmakers, and bringing women together in their communities, according to officials.

The event is set to highlight women as leaders in society, illustrated through eight short films by women filmmakers, organizers said.

“It is made for, about and by women,” said Beth Heiserman, President-elect, SCV Zonta Club.

Each of the films range from animation to fictional drama, and cover topics such as women’s health, body image, relationships, cultural diversity and breaking barriers, officials added.

Among the 8 short films to be shown at the event is “The Final Show,” starring Marion Ross of the famous “Happy Days” television series.

All proceeds from Lunafest will benefit SCV Zonta and Chicken & Egg Pictures, a nonprofit organization that supports women nonfiction filmmakers whose artful and innovative storytelling catalyzes social change, according to officials.

So far, Lunafest, which is created and funded by LUNA®, a brand of nutrition bar, has raised more than $4 Million for nonprofit organizations across the US and Canada, officials said.

The Canyon Theater Guild is located at 24242 Main Street, Newhall Ca. 91321.

Tickets for the event can be found here.

The evening is scheduled as follows:

  • 5:45 p.m. – VIP ticket holder reception
  • 6:30 p.m. – General admission reception
  • 7 p.m. – Showing of Lunafest Films
