The Tier 4 was on display at the Newhall Metrolink station at 24300 Railroad Ave, where residents were able to go see the locomotive and take pictures.

The new train is the cleanest, most powerful and safest diesel locomotives in the nation, according to a Metrolink press release. It is designed to reduce the carbon emissions produced by Metrolink vehicles by up to 85 percent, as the Tier 4 trans begin replacing older models.

When all 40 of the Tier 4 locomotives are in service, officials said, it will be equivalent to stopping the annual emissions of 31,320 vehicles.

The South Coast Air Quality Management District helped fund the purchase of the Tier 4 locomotives with a grant of $111 million. The remaining projected cost of $280 million to acquire the 40 Tier 4 locomotives came from a combination of Metrolink member agency contributions and other subsidies.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
