A brand new line of waterproof carpeting and laminate wood flooring is now available at the Santa Clarita flooring company Brent’s Carpet One.

While traditional carpets are made with a latex backing, which absorbs liquids and causes damage to carpeting, a new line of carpets made with waterproof plasticized backing are now available, according to Ben Griffiths, co-owner of Brent’s Carpet One.
“Carpet has always been interesting in that when you spill, it goes through the backing,” he said. “It’s just protected by latex; that’s only to hold the carpet fiber in place. They have a new plasticized backing that’s waterproof– it’s lifeproof.”
In addition, many homeowners with traditional carpeting may not realize they are actually damaging their carpets having them professionally cleaned, Griffiths added.
“When you clean your carpet professionally, the water gets through the carpet and into the padding, so that can compromise the life of your padding; now the carpet absorbs all the impact when people walk on it so it then damages the carpet,” he said.
Carpeting with plasticized backing avoids this problem by keeping the water from spills and professional cleaning out of the padding, extending the duration of the life of the carpet.
Similarly, typical laminate wood flooring is instantly ruined by spills, but the recent incorporation of plasticized cores protects the flooring from water damage.
“One of the biggest enemies of laminate floors is water– they’re like a sponge,” Griffiths said. “Now they have plasticizes cores, so they aren’t affected by water. The water just rolls off it.”
