Around 5 p.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to an assault with a deadly weapon report in the 24000 block of Race Street in Newhall, according to Sheriff’s officials.

“The deputies arrested one individual who was charged with making a criminal threat and assault with a firearm,” said Lt. Andrew Dahring, is the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station. “No bullets have to be fired for it to be considered assault with a deadly weapon.”

An assault is carried out by a threat of bodily harm coupled with an apparent, present ability to cause the harm, according to the Penal Code.

“If you point a gun at someone and threaten them, that is assault,” Dahring said.

No injuries were reported, according to officials.

The suspect was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station where he is being booked.

The name of the suspect was not immediately available as of Tuesday evening.

About Louie Diaz

Louie was born and raised in Santa Clarita. At the age of two Louie lost his vision due to a brain tumor. However, Louie doesn't let blindness stop him from doing what ever it is he wants to accomplish. Growing up some of his favorite hobbies were wood working, fishing and riding bikes. Louie graduated from College of the Canyon in December of 2017, with a Broadcast Journalism degree. Growing up Louie has always wanted to be a fire fighter or a police officer, but because of his blindness Louie knew that wouldn't work. Louie has always loved listening to police and fire radio traffic, using a scanner, and he figured if he was going to listen to the scanner so much, he should do something with it.
