One person was killed and four others were injured Thursday in a Piru crash on Highway 126, officials said.
The multi-car crash occurred just after 5 p.m. Thursday on Highway 126 near Piru, and emergency crews responded to the scene within minutes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred on the eastbound side of Highway 126 in Piru, just west of Center Street, according to Ventura County Fire officials.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash, with one vehicle overturned and wedged between the others, containing two trapped patients in critical condition, according to Ventura County Fire.
One of the trapped patients was extricated safely, and the second was pronounced dead at the scene.
The remaining critical patient was airlifted to the hospital, with the helicopter landing on the highway, and at least two persons who had experienced moderate to serious injuries were transported via ambulance, according to officials.
Highway 126 was closed in both directions in the area for almost an hour, with eastbound travel opening up just after 6 p.m., according to CHP officials.
