The annual luncheon focuses on helping local businesses prepare for upcoming changes to relevant employment laws and other legal matters that may affect Santa Clarita businesses and professionals, according to officials.
“Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to the law,” said Brian Koegle, a partner and co-founder of Poole & Shaffery. “Your business can’t afford to ignore California employment laws and risk catastrophic results.”
During the luncheon, officials plan to cover topics including changes in independent contractor classifications, rounding timekeeping policies and calculating overtime payments for non-exempt employees.
Officials will also go over on-duty rest periods, the future of on-duty meal periods, changes to disclosure requirements, settlement agreements for sexual harassment claims, and employment arbitration agreements in California.
“Every year, drastic changes to employment law go largely unnoticed by the majority of the business community — until they need us,” said Koegle.
The law firm’s event is hosted in partnership with the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce and will take place Thursday, Jan. 10 at 11:45 a.m. at the Hyatt Regency Valencia.
Tickets are available to the general public for $65 and $55 to Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce members. Tickets can be purchased through the event website or by calling (661) 702-6977.
