Captain Robert Lewis announced the current lineup, so to speak, which has been a part of station operations for several years now, in a news release this week.

“We need to develop our crime prevention mission and goals through predictive policing,” Lewis said, emphasizing a priority that also relies on community interaction. “This entails identifying areas where crimes are frequently occurring, and making an action plan.”

The program improves accountability for residents and law enforcement officials, Lewis said, because the public now has a person for specific concerns or questions about public safety responsible for each area.

“I want to reintroduce the public to our Crime Prevention Unit (CPU) Zone Leaders,” Lewis said. “Our service areas of Santa Clarita Valley are divided into eight zones. Each zone is monitored and managed by a Crime Prevention deputy who looks at incidents of reported crimes and keeps track of crime trends.”

For the “Gorman” area, Deputy John DeYoung can be reached at [email protected]. His patrol zone is the farthest from the station, and reaches north well past city limits.

For the Castaic/ Val Verde area, Deputy Brian Rooney, can be reached at [email protected], or calling the station and asking for Rooney. He’s frequently conducting outreach in the Val Verde area in addition to patrol responsibilities. Rooney helps administer the local chapter of the YAL.

In the Stevenson Ranch area, the CPU leader is Deputy Kevin Duxbury [email protected] or at 661-799-5158

For the Saugus area, the CPU zone leader is Deputy Chris Craft, who can be reached at [email protected] 661-799-5161

For the Valencia area, Deputy Brian Heischuber can be reached at [email protected] 661-799-5163.

For the Newhall area, Deputy Betsy Shackelford can be reached at [email protected] 661-255-1121 ext. 4411.

Canyon Country is divided into two zones, due to the population density:

In Canyon Country West, the zone leader is Deputy Jon Wilson, available at [email protected] 661-799-5159.

The Canyon Country East zone is being handled by Deputy Luis Cabrera, at [email protected] 661-799-5158.

For deputies DeYoung and Rooney, who do not have a direct line listed, phone messages can be left with CPU Sergeant Michael Wright at 661-799-5802.
