Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Accepting Applicants For Community Academy

Applications are open for the 2019 Sheriff’s Community Academy through the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station, where participants can learn about various law enforcement procedures and operations.

The Sheriff’s Community Academy is set to be held Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. starting May 6 and concluding July 1, according to officials.

The eight-week academy is expected to give instruction on topics such as patrol procedures, jail operations, detective bureau investigations and gang/narcotic enforcement.

The academy is also set to include two planned field trips, according to officials.

One field trip is expected to visit a LA County Sheriff’s Department maximum security jail. The other field trip is expected to attend a “Shoot Don’t Shoot” simulator.

“It showed a lot of different aspects of the Sheriff’s Department and it was very interesting,” said Ken Chase, who graduated from the academy’s inaugural class in 2014, in a previous story.

The academy is limited to 20 participants and applications to join will be closed April 29, officials said.

Applicants need to fit the following criteria: must be 18 years of age, must reside or work in Santa Clarita and must not be involved in any criminal process or have felony convictions.
